The 3-year-long television show Ang Probinsiyano continues to rank high in the ratings game that people online often joke that it would never end.
A new meme, however, has given the show an ending date — and it caught the attention of no less than the show’s lead actor, Coco Martin.
Yesterday, Martin shared the meme on Instagram. It shows his character Cardo Dalisay in true Photoshop form with grey hair and wrinkles but still holding a gun. It goes: “Ang Probinsiyano. The last two weeks: 08.25.2048.”
It’s a joke of course, but Martin was naturally flattered. He wrote in Filipino: “Thank you for your love!”
In the Philippines, prime-time drama shows rarely last long, especially now that many potential viewers are hooked on the internet. But Ang Probinsiyano has proven to be the exception, and in some nights it receives a rating of more than 40 percent. It often leaves competing shows eating dust.
Martin’s followers are equally amused by the meme.
Wrote @iamteresamcauliffe in Filipino: “Haha, my grandchildren can still watch this.”
Wrote @ernasajulga: “I hope it will never end, hahahahhaha.”
Wrote @ybur_intacto: “His face is all wrinkled up but Mister Coco Martin still looks good [heart, smiley, and laughing emoji]”
Wrote @aldovernimfa: “Don’t end it yet! I have nothing to watch here in Israel. I’m a solid Probinsiyano fan.”
