The parking level of Jazz Residences in Makati, a condo-mall, partially collapsed this morning, various media reported.
SM Development Corporation, the building’s developer, said in a Facebook post that the parking area collapsed at around 11am.
“As of this posting no serious casualties were reported. As a safety precaution, residents were directed to stay near [M]etropolitan Avenue,” it added.
Makati City Mayor Abby Binay said the wall collapsed on the building’s fifth floor and fell on the driveway in front of the structure, radio station DZBB reports. At least three vehicles were damaged.
Witnesses claimed that they heard a loud explosion prior to the structure’s collapse.
Contrary to SMDC’s statement, SunStar Manila reported that two people were injured from the incident. Gideon Ines, Makati City Police Station deputy chief for operations, said the injured individuals were brought to a hospital for treatment.
Residents have been evacuated from the condominium, reports Rappler. Firefighters and other officials are currently inspecting the building.
