It’s not a surprising result, given that Pinoys absolutely love pageants, a stark contrast to the western view that such contests are sexist and passé.
Many Filipinos love international pageants such as Miss Universe because they provide winners with a multitude of career opportunities, aside from giving them an avenue to showcase the country’s heritage.
Twitter’s latest data also does not come as a shock given that the Philippines has consistently been called the world’s social media capital.
According to the Digital 2018 report conducted by United Kingdom-based consultancy We Are Social and social media platform Hootsuite, Pinoys spent an average of three hours and 57 minutes on social media, mostly on Facebook, last year.
Expect to see more of the hashtag #CatrionaGray on Twitter because she’ll be flying to Manila today for her grand homecoming. Her mother’s hometown Oas in Albay province has also prepared homecoming welcome festivities for the beauty queen.
