Here’s a piece of good news for people who need to stay hydrated while commuting: you can now bring water on the MRT-3 again.

But wait, there’s a limit.

The MRT-3 announced on their Facebook account today that they will now allow commuters to bring up to 100ml of liquids on their trains.

It’s not a lot but hey, at least it’s something.

Commuters can bring not just water but also perfume, rubbing alcohol, hand sanitizers, and other liquids as long as they follow the limit.

The MRT-3 added: “We also want to remind passengers to get their confiscated item/s from our station supervisors who are assigned at the station [where these items] were confiscated.”

Passengers were told to present their IDs to the station supervisor so they can get their confiscated items.

Two weeks ago, the MRT-3 banned all liquids in its 13 stations because they said they can be used as bombs. The rule was put in place after the cathedral bombing in Jolo, Sulu.

One Chinese fashion student, however, appeared to be unhappy with the rule.

Zhang Jiale became the object of public scorn after she threw her taho (soybean curd drink) at a police officer who forbade her from bringing it inside the MRT Boni station.  She’s now detained at the Bureau of Immigration.

Netizens had varying reactions to the MRT’s latest announcement.

Wrote a netizen using the name Aaron Winterfell: “[N]ice move. [S]ecurity personnel and undercover agents are the best way to deter and prevent criminal tendencies and propensities, not by forbidding people from bringing mineral water like a sealed Nature’s Spring.”

Chris Legaspi had a different reaction. “[B]ottled water that’s 100 ml? Is this a joke?” he said.

Referring to the case of the fashion student, James Francisco wrote: “So can we bring taho?”

You could but it shouldn’t be more than 100ml, dude.
