This dog’s barked saved a family’s life.
A dog named Mitzah is now being hailed a hero after waking up his owners when a fire started at their home at the Philex Mining Corporation mine camp in Sitio Padcal in Tuba town in the northern Philippines.
Brothers Wilbur and Kurt Santos —14 and 12 respectively — were left alone in their 3-bedroom unit on the evening of May 13, Saturday, when the fire started. Their father was at work while their mother was on vacation with their two siblings, reports Rappler.
Wilbur’s barking in the middle of the night woke up Wilbur, who saw their house filled with smoke.
The boy woke up his younger brother and they ran outside to ask for help from their neighbors.
The Santos home was devoured by flames but the boys’ parents are grateful that their family was unharmed during the incident.
“If not for him, we probably wouldn’t be here,” said Kurt.
Mitzah has been with his owners for three years.
