When CCTV footage goes viral, it’s usually candid shots of unsuspecting people, but that’s not the case with a new video that features a man talking directly to a convenience store security camera to greet his family.

The video, posted by Facebook user Cherry Mae Bermas earlier this month, shows a man named John Rivera jumping and waving at the camera while saying hello to his family as if he were on live television.

Because who needs Skype, right?

“Binabati ko sila mama ko, sila papa ko ang mga pamilya ko sa Cebu, mahal na mahal ko kayo. Ang saya saya Kuya Will. Mama, andito na ako sa Manila (I want to greet my mom, my dad, my family in Cebu. I love you all very much. It’s so fun Kuya Will. Mom, I’m now in Manila),” Rivera said.

The video had 816,000 views, 23,000 reactions, 18,000 shares, and more than 1,000 comments as of posting time.

It isn’t clear where exactly the video was taken, but based on Bermas and Rivera’s Facebook profile, they are both based in Pasay City, Metro Manila.

The 12-second video of pure excitement got the attention of netizens, who thought Rivera was so #relatable.

Apart from hundreds of users laughing at the comments section, many also commented how likely it is for them or their friends to do the same thing.

“How is this so you [?]” Facebook user Czein Laruscain told a friend she tagged in a comment.

“They can actually hear [what we say]?” Princess Deign pointed out to her friend. “What’s going to happen to the stuff we said to a CCTV before?”

“Maybe I should do this,” Lambert Felias said.

“I find him so funny… he’s like me. I also wave when there’s a CCTV [camera]… hahahaha,” Marilag Larosa Medina said.

So the next time you’re feeling homesick, you know what to do.
