Some people will do anything just to get their Spam fix.

Authorities yesterday reported that a 21-year-old man was allegedly caught stealing a can of Spam from a 7- Eleven store in Mandala Park in Pleasant Hills, Mandaluyong City.

Bandera identified the suspect as 21-year-old Junard Dula.

According to The Philippine Daily Inquirer, a store employee allegedly saw in the grocery’s CCTV that Dula took a can of the luncheon meat worth PHP199 (US$3.76) on Sunday night.

He allegedly hid it in his shorts and left the store without paying for it in the cashier. The store clerk reported the incident to a security guard who accosted Dula.

Mandaluyong City’s chief of police Senior Superintendent Moises Villaceran was quoted by Rappler saying: “[He said] he just wanted to eat it.”

In case you haven’t heard, Filipinos love Spam.

While some nationalities don’t like the canned meat and think it’s gross, Filipinos are really into it and even believe that those who buy them are seriously posh.

Villaceran said the suspect was brought to a prosecutor’s office to be formally charged with a crime but a representative of the store said that they are no longer keen on filing a case against Dula.

Villaceran said that it was likely that the representative chose not to pursue their case because he felt sorry for the suspect.
