Instead of enjoying the weekend, horror gripped a family in Cebu City when their own father held them against their will.

A man by the name of Elan Sisiban held hostage his own mother, wife, and two sons on Saturday night inside their neighbor’s house in Sitio Caduloy Riverside in Barangay (village) Tisa.

He was reportedly high on illegal drugs during the incident, according to Cebu Daily News.

According to Balita, a Special Weapon and Tactics (SWAT) team arrived in the area to free the family from the suspect.

Sisiban was arrested but initially refused to surrender to the SWAT team. He also demanded food, the presence of a local media personality, and ordered the team to leave the area. When it became apparent that he wasn’t going to surrender, the SWAT team entered the house and rescued the family who appeared shaken but unharmed.

ABS-CBN News reported that this is not the first time Sisiban held his family hostage.

Aside from allegedly being addicted to drugs, he reportedly suffers from mental problems.

He had a nervous breakdown a few days before he committed the crime, reported ABS-CBN.
