A pregnant public school teacher was suffocated to death early this morning when her husband allegedly smothered her with a pillow. The crime occurred inside a compound owned by an unidentified church in Dumaguete City.

GMA News’ Balitambayan identified the victim as 31-year-old Virginia Montesor, who was seven months pregnant when she died. The suspect is her husband, 29-year-old Ronald Montesor.

A police officer assigned to the Dumaguete Police Station told Coconuts Manila that Virginia and Ronald were having marital problems and had recently sought counseling from their church pastor, a distant relative of Ronald named Eleazar Montesor.

As part of his counseling, the pastor asked the couple to spend the night inside the church’s compound in the village of Taclobo, said the officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity as he was not authorized to speak to the press.

The next morning at about 5:45am, the pastor discovered the lifeless body of Virginia inside the bedroom where she and her husband stayed in.

The officer said Eleazar called them for help and forced Ronald to remain at the compound, where he was arrested. He is now being detained at the Dumaguete Police Station.

“He said he killed her because of jealousy,” the officer said. “But he didn’t want to explain what made him jealous.”

Ronald will be charged with murder.
