Airport authorities arrested a Japanese businessman at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 (T1) for allegedly hitting an 11-year-old child.
Koichi Kuroda, 50, arrived at NAIA T1 on board Japan Airlines flight JAL 745 from Japan Thursday night.
According to an incident report acquired by ABS-CBN News, Kuroda supposedly hit the child’s head, without any reason, upon reaching the baggage conveyor area. The child was waiting for luggage with his father when the incident happened.
The father, passengers and customs official who saw the incident immediately notified airport police officers Ric Ongtawco and Danilo Sanchez, who then arrested the businessman.
The timely arrival of airport police prevented the crowd from mobbing Kuroda, who allegedly boasted of being rich and influential.
Kuroda initially had an altercation with immigration officers due to unruly behavior but was allowed entry after he said he was in possession of a valid business visa.
An immigration officer who chose to remain anonymous told ABS-CBN News that Kuroda said he employed hundreds of Filipino workers at his manufacturing company in Dasmariñas, Cavite.
The victim’s parents refused any amicable settlement and decided to pursue a complaint against Kuroda.
Charges of violation of child abuse law were filed at the Pasay Prosecutors Office on Friday afternoon.
Kuroda remained detained at the Airport Police Investigation and Detective Service office while awaiting the commitment order.
