It’s been almost a year since infamous suitor Xian Gaza asked actress Erich Gonzales out for a coffee date by using a massive billboard to propose, an act called by some as borderline creepy.

Gaza has become news fodder once again when he announced on Facebook yesterday that he has been sentenced to five years and six months in jail after pleading guilty for violating the Bouncing Check Law.
The self-proclaimed chief executive officer shared what appears to be a copy of the Malabon Metropolitan Trial Court’s ruling which stated that Gaza was guilty of 11 counts of violation of the Bouncing Check Law (also referred to as National Law No. 22).
According to the document, the court has ordered Gaza to pay the sum of PHP2.18 million (more than US$40,790) to the complainant. He also needs to cover the costs of litigation that the complainant has incurred, with a 6 percent per year interest.
The document didn’t show the name of the complainant, but in April, Gaza was brought to court for failing to pay back two investors who were identified as Jaime Asuncion and Melinda Cruz. The two said they gave Gaza an investment of at least PHP3 million (more than US$57,650) for a coffee shop that never materialized.
Gaza was issued two warrants until he turned himself in on April 12. In a Facebook live video posted on April 15, he said that “someone bailed out for me [sic],” but left the person anonymous.
Calling himself a “young fraudigy,” Gaza became a social media sensation thanks to his billboard stunt and for coining the random word “nyeam,” which remains undefined until this day.
Yesterday, Gaza made one last hurrah on social media, asking Gonzales for a date before he got locked up in jail.
He wrote in a mix of English and Filipino: “Erich Gonzales, it’s been [almost] one year since my coffee date billboard on July 1, Sunday… Maybe you could give [me] my coffee [date] a chance before I go to prison?”
Gaza added, “Nyealamat”– a portmanteau of “nyeam” and “salamat” (thank you).
The note ended with the words, “Hoping, Xian Gaza.”
