Adios, Lassoued.
The Bureau of Immigration (BI) announced today that it deported an Egyptian national suspected to be a member of terrorist organization Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS).
Egyptian Fehmi Lassoued was deported from the Philippines on board an Oct. 6 Thai Airways flight bound for Bangkok which will then fly to Cairo.
In a statement released by the BI, it said that Lassoued will be taken into government custody once he arrives in Egypt.
Lassoued was caught in February this year with his girlfriend Anabel Salipada in an apartment allegedly filled with guns, ammunition, and other bomb-making materials. However, the case against him was dropped after prosecutors said that the charges might have been made up, reported Reuters.
The BI remained unconvinced, however, and cited reports from the Philippine National Police (PNP) which alleges that he was an ISIS recruiter, negotiator, and even commander at the Syria-Turkey border.
Commissioner Jaime Morente said that despite the dismissal of the case against Lassoued by the Department of Justice, he still violated the country’s immigration laws.
His alleged violations include providing a fictitious employer in his application for a Philippine working visa as well as using a false Tunisian passport.
Lassoued is now included in the BI’s blacklist which prevents him from returning to the country.
