The husband of missing Filipino-American Maya Millete is reportedly no longer cooperating with the authorities as the search continues for his spouse.

Maya was last seen by her husband Larry Millete in their home in Chula Vista, California on Jan. 7, a few days before a scheduled family trip to celebrate their daughter’s 11th birthday.

Maricris Drouaillet, Maya’s sister, told Dateline that her sibling failed to respond to their family’s group chat when asked about the details of the trip. This worried their family, leading one of their brothers to visit Maya’s home to check up on their sister. Larry allegedly told his brother-in-law that Maya was inside her bedroom. Maya’s brother assumed that his sibling was sleeping because she didn’t answer her bedroom door when he knocked.

By Jan. 9, Drouaillet and the rest of their family have yet to hear from Maya. Their father decided to visit her home and told Larry to open her bedroom. May was not inside her room.

Her family thought that she had gone hiking in a canyon behind her house, but she couldn’t be found in the area. Larry, who has surrendered his cellphone to the authorities, has reportedly asked for privacy. He reportedly hasn’t joined any vigils or searches for his missing spouse and has hired a lawyer. He is supposedly no longer answering any questions about his wife’s disappearance.

Larry’s distancing has been “tough” on their family, Drouaillet said. She urged her brother-in-law to help them find Maya.

“We can’t imagine him doing anything to our sister,” she told NBC7. “Show that you do care for my sister. Show that you do love her. That’s all I’m asking.”

Maya has three children and works as a contractor for Naval Base San Diego. Her car remains in her home, and all calls to her cellphone go straight to voicemail.
