Family of Tourism Dep’t lawyer and UP prof appeal for help after he goes missing

A high-ranking official of the Department of Tourism (DOT) has been missing since Saturday, his family member said yesterday.

In an online post, Randy Oliva said that his brother, lawyer Ryan Oliva, has been unheard of since the weekend. He appealed to Filipinos to provide any information about his brother’s whereabouts. People may contact +63 906 300 1009 for any information they have.

Randy’s post has gone viral and has been shared almost 7,000 times since it appeared.

Ryan teaches legal history and the law on agency and partnership at the University of the Philippines College of Law, where he graduated with a Juris Doctor in 2011. He is also the chief of the Legislative Liaison Unit of the DOT.

In a statement, the DOT said that it “has coordinated with the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG), and is in constant communication with Atty. Oliva’s family.” It also urged the public to contact PNP-CIDG chief Maj. General Joel Napoleon Coronel through +63 920 905 1987.

“The DOT also requests prayers for successful search efforts and appeals for respect for the privacy of the Oliva family,” the department added.

Ryan’s disappearance occurred shortly after two lawyers’ killings by unidentified shooters in Cebu City and Palawan.
