Hero dog saves abandoned baby from pile of garbage

A stray dog became a local hero after saving the life of a baby in Sitio Camansi, in Cebu’s Lapu-Lapu City on Feb 22.

According to a report from SunStar Cebu, the dog pulled out the newborn “floating on a pile of garbage”. The president of Camansi’s neighborhood association, Vilma Toring, heard a baby’s cries and saw that the dog was dragging something from the garbage.

When Toring checked, she saw a “baby girl with the umbilical cord and placenta still intact.” Authorities believe the infant was born at dawn and then abandoned.

The Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation rescued the infant and brought her to the Lapu-Lapu City Hospital for a full check-up.

Meanwhile, local authorities are searching the village to find the baby’s parents.
