Proposals are ordinarily done in a beautiful place with friends and family. But this proposal is nothing ordinary.
Facebook user Mark Narcissus Apura shared a video on Saturday of how a marine soldier proposed to his girlfriend with the help of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Koronadal City, South Cotabato. She ended up sobbing uncontrollably because, you know, she thought he died and all.
The 2-minute video shows the man lying flat on the pavement after supposedly falling off his motorcycle. Surrounding him was a police car and several cops — a scene straight out of a traffic accident.
His girlfriend arrives on a motorcycle wailing over the sight of her “dead” boyfriend.
When she gets closer, the authorities ask in Filipino, “Do you know him?”
The authorities flip the guy over gently to show that he’s still alive and breathing. He then acts like he can’t stand, which prompted the men to continue to help him up — to one knee, that is.
He pops the red engagement box and his girlfriend cries yet again, but this time, it’s tears of joy. Finally.
His girlfriend slaps his hand first before she finally gives in to his hug. He puts the ring on her finger and people brought out the confetti, clapped and cheered them on.
Aww, we love a happy ending.
The video had over 16 million views, 118,000 likes, and 65,000 shares as of this article’s posting.
Some netizens loved the idea:
Jeniel Serjas wrote: “[This is] So sweet..congtratz (sic).”
Jowelyn Basilan said in Filipino: “[This is] nice, makes me cry… OMG… TRUE LOVE….”
Marge Camingawan Rojo said the guy had “ninja moves” and that he was good.
Star Edisan said: “How sweet.. I hope [someone does this to me too].”
Others thought the proposal was a bit of a hassle to other motorists.
Ellen Mae Magno Aquino wrote, “I’m also a marine and this is disappointing, as if the guy doesn’t have discipline why did you need to propose in the middle of the road you are an attention-seeker.”
“As a motorist, this is annoying and a hassle to others.”
Loyd Escitnal said they only made traffic worse.
Dutch Ivynej said this was the “worse proposal.”
Late last month, a guy also pretended to be arrested just before he popped the question to his significant other.
