A driver for ride-hailing app Grab has been found dead inside his vehicle after he was shot several times. The incident was shared by Grab Philippines Country Head Brian Cu in a Facebook post earlier today.

According to Cu, the driver’s name was Ananias Antigua and he was found dead inside his vehicle by police in Parañaque City on July 31.

GMA News’ Balitambayan reported that upon a postmortem examination, it was found that Antigua, 54 years old, sustained 12 gunshot wounds. Police suspect that the incident was a case of robbery or carnapping.

The same report says that Antigua picked up his last passenger at around 7pm and drove him to a hotel-casino in Pasay City.

“We condemn this incident in the strongest terms. Since we learned about the incident, Grab has been closely coordinating with the authorities,” Grab’s Cu said.

He also specified safety features Grab has added to the app in the past like an SOS button and a “stricter” verification process for passengers.

These features were implemented after the death of Grab driver Gerardo “Junjie” Maquidato last year, who was also shot and killed and found near his vehicle. According to Rappler, Maquidato’s assailants booked a ride through the Grab app.
