Goldilocks Bakeshop turned out to be the lone bidder in the cake program for senior citizens in the city of Makati.

The Makati City government opened to media on Mon afternoon, Aug 10, the bidding for the cake project worth PHP9.3 million.

Goldilocks Bakeshop is now closer to getting the contract after it was declared eligible by the Bids and Awards Committee (BAC) during an open bidding held at the city hall today.

Goldilocks Bakeshop was the lone bidder when the committee opened the proposals on Mon afternoon.

After scrutiny of the required documents, BAC Chairman Danilo Villas declared that the bakeshop company passed the eligibility screening.

Villas said the current supplier, Bakerite, was invited but did not join the bidding.

Gilbert Delos Reyes, new head of the Makati public information office, said the entry of Goldilocks might have caused other interested bidders to back out.

“Dahil Goldilocks iyan, dambuhalang kumpanya, ‘yung mga dating nag-signify baka natakot (Goldiloacks is a bug company. Maybe the others got scared),” Delos Reyes said.

Villas, however, emphasized that the technical working group will still evaluate the proposals.

“This will be subject to further evaluation, which will cover 7 calendar days,” he said.

The contract covers cakes to be delivered from Aug 15 to Dec 31, 2015.

Villas assured that there will be no delays in the delivery of one of the benefits of the city’s senior citizens.

“Kaya nga po inaapura para walang makaligtaang senior citizen,” he said.

It turned out that the bid of Goldilocks was PHP700,000 less than the projected amount of PHP9.3 million by the city hall.

Goldilocks’ bid was PHP8,666,080.50. This includes delivery of 31,187 cakes for senior citizens of Makati.

Based on the bid documents of Goldilocks, each cake will cost from PHP266 to PHP285, depending on the size.

The city’s cake program became controversial after critics of suspended Mayor Junjun Binay alleged that the cakes were overpriced. The Binays denied the allegation.
