The number of Filipinos who have died in the Beirut blast has risen to four, the Foreign Affairs Department in Manila announced today.
The department also said in a statement that there are now 31 Filipinos in the city who have been injured from the incident, an increase from the 24 reported yesterday. Two of those injured are in critical condition and are being treated in Beirut’s Rizk Hospital.
“We are saddened by the latest turn of developments. The higher figure comes as our Embassy personnel work to ascertain the condition of the Filipinos in its jurisdiction,“ Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Sarah Lou Arriola said.

The Philippine Embassy in Lebanon said yesterday that one Filipino seafarer was missing, but announced shortly after that all sailors from a group of 13 have all been accounted for. However, it announced today that one Filipino domestic worker could not be found.
Lebanon is the home of at least 33,000 Filipino migrant workers, most of whom are women. At least 157 people were killed and 5,000 were injured from the explosion, reportedly caused by thousands of metric tons of ammonium nitrate stored at the city’s port. Authorities have arrested 16 persons in connection with the event, which is currently being investigated.
