You never know what you’ll discover while walking in the Philippine countryside.

An improvised explosive device (IED) was discovered by farmers in Compostela Valley yesterday morning, ABS-CBN News reported.

The explosive was discovered by Loreto Concon and Artemio Mandaue. They first saw a long electrical wire that was partly buried underground.

When the two men saw that it was attached to an IED, they ran away and informed members of the 71st Infrantry Battalion of the Philippine Army about their discovery.

The soldiers were able to recover the IED, which turned out to be a landmine. Also attached to it was a 50-meter long electrical wiring.

According to the army, the IED was installed by members of the New People’s Army, the armed wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines.

They said it was probably installed by the group as a way to commemmorate the 46th anniversary of the proclamation of Martial Law, which is tomorrow.
