A 34-year-old man who allegedly tried to torch himself was arrested last night after the fire department accused him of starting yesterday’s blaze which engulfed the village of Addition Hills in Mandaluyong City.
The bureau did not specify what materials the unnamed man used to burn himself, and added that further investigations are still underway.
The fire first broke at around 5:30pm and allegedly started in Block 37 on Fabella St. in Addition Hills. Less than three hours later, the fire had spread to major areas in the village, and was put out past midnight.
No one was killed from the incident, but an 11-year-old boy was reportedly hurt. An estimated PHP2 million (US$39,735) worth of property have been destroyed in the blaze.
According to the Mandaluyong City Social Welfare Office, at least 3,840 affected residents were rescued and brought to Addition Hills Integrated School where they are currently sheltered.
