Dream job: Fil-Am ‘Snapchat Princess’ earns as much as USD30,000 per gig

Does making Snapchat stories count as a real job? Let this girl’s paycheck silence your doubts.

US-based Fil-Am Cyrene Quiamco earns USD10,0000 to USD30,000 per gig by creating 10-second videos on the popular social media app Snapchat.

The creative entrepreneur has turned herself into Sailormoon, Snow White, Wonder Woman, a Ninja Turtle and Princess Ariel among many other famous icons in her Snapchat videos. She has worked with brands like Disney, Burger King, Samsung, and Walmart.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you probably know that Snapchat is a social media app which lets users draw, and add stickers and filters on short video clips. The content disappears after 24 hours or less.

Why do brands pay Cyrene so much? According to Forbes.com, her “brand is so strong” that “blue chip (companies) are begging to tap into her coveted Gen Z audience.” She has about 100,000 followers on Snapchat.

How did this happen? Where can we sign up? This 27-year-old artist was at the right place at the right time, but getting there wasn’t a walk in the park.

According to Entrepreneur Philippines, “In 1997, seven-year-old Cyrene, together with three-year-old sister Chris-Joy and single mom Christine Ganzon, went to America on the strength of a 10-year tourist visa, in search of a better life.“

After years of struggle, Cyrene eventually entered college with seven scholarships! She promised her mom that she won’t be a “starving artist.”

“She graduated from the University of Arkansas, at Little Rock, magna cum laude with three majors for Studio Art: Graphic Design, Painting and Ceramics with a minor in Digital Graphics,” says the Entrepreneur report.

Prior to becoming Snapchat royalty, Cyrene had worked as a web designer for a US telecoms company. She started playing around with Snapchat and brands started to take notice. She eventually quit her job to focus on making Snapchat videos.

The rest is history. You may find out more about her work on her Instagram account, or better yet, go check her out on Snapchat.
