More than 700 inmates joined Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) personnel in an hour-long Zumba Fitness Party Saturday morning in Barangay Handumanan here as part of their Sayaw Kontra Droga program.
George Flores, head of inmates in the male annex dormitory, said this was the first time that they were treated to a Zumba party led by licensed instructors.
The party, he said, aimed not only to continue the advocacy against illegal drugs, but to also give detainees a chance to enjoy the traditional way of celebrating the feast of St. John the Baptist every June 24—splashing water on participants.
A firetruck sprayed water while a foam machine blew soap suds on the participants as they danced and exercised.
Jail Inspector Gerald Diano, the assistant jail warden, said the Bacolod facility’s population has more than doubled- from 300 to more than 700- due to arrests amid the aggressive campaign against illegal drugs.
