The police chief of Argao, Cebu was arrested today for allegedly sleeping with a female inmate in exchange for allowing her — and another inmate described as a “helper” — to literally sleep inside his air-conditioned office and private quarters at the municipal station.
An inspection conducted by the Philippine National Police – Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (PNP-IMEG) found one female inmate sleeping inside the quarters of Police Maj. Ildefonso Miranda Jr, and another staying in his office.
“The two female inmates are supposed to be locked up at the police jail, not sleeping in the room of the police station commander,” PNP-IMEG Director Police Col. Ronald Lee told GMA News. (You don’t say.)
Photos from Miranda’s seized cellphone allegedly show him lounging in his quarters with the two inmates, with one photo showing one female inmate saluting while wearing the cop’s uniform, ABS-CBN reports.
According to Lee, the two inmates, aged 23 and 40, are drug suspects who were arrested on separate occasions.

A PNP-IMEG report uncovered by The Philippine Daily Inquirer alleged that Miranda was “having [a] sexual relationship with the female inmate in exchange for her privilege to sleep in his air-conditioned office.” Reports said Miranda was sleeping with the 23-year-old, while the 40-year-old inmate was described as a “helper.”
Police confiscated two government-issued pistols from Miranda during his arrest.
The accused official will face charges for violation of the Republic Act 3019 or the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act and of Article 156 of the Revised Penal Code, which penalizes (sorry, we had to) the removal of an inmate from jail by means of violence, intimidation or bribery.
