Burglars these days have gotten so creative.

An architect found out yesterday that a still unidentified thief allegedly broke into her condominium unit in Manila, possibly by going through a hole on the wall where an air conditioning unit was installed.

Allegedly stolen from the unit were cash and jewelry worth more than PHP800,000 (US$15,082.46), GMA News’ Unang Balita reported.

This includes around US$7,000 in cash, gemstones worth PHP300,000 (US$5,655.92), and jewelry worth PHP150,000 (US$2,828.09).

The burglary could have happened as early as October but unit owner Grace Oliva only found out about the incident yesterday because she does not live there.

Oliva was visiting the unit to get it repaired for relatives who plan to stay there over the holidays. She found the doorknob in the master’s bedroom broken and a vault broken and flipped over. There was also dust all over the area where the aircon was.

The Manila Police District Theft and Robbery Section are currently investigating the incident.

This apparently was not the first time Oliva’s condo had been broken into.

In August last year, PHP6 million (US$113,123.65) worth of cash and jewelry were also allegedly stolen from the same unit. Whoever was behind that crime has not been identified.

According to the GMA News report, there are no CCTV cameras outside the condo unit.

Maybe it’s about time to get one?
