A former cop was injured while his son was arrested yesterday after the former allegedly engaged policemen in a shootout in Pasig City.

Cops were enforcing lockdown protocols in the village of Bagong Bayan in Quezon City when they spotted the van being driven by former patrolman Joselito Delos Santos, who was accompanied by his son Jason Delos Santos, reports The Philippine Daily Inquirer. Cops told the father-and-son duo to stop at a checkpoint, but Joselito sped towards the village of Ugong in Pasig City.

“I told them to stop but they refused, so I hit their side mirror with a stick,” Senior Master Sergeant Allan Relolano told news television show 24 Oras. “I got out of their way because they were going to run over me.”

One of the policemen, Corporal Villamor Talosig, was able to catch up with the suspects when the duo’s van slammed into a tree. However, as Talosig was about to approach the suspects, Joselito allegedly engaged him in a gunfight. The cop fought back and shot Joselito, leaving the latter injured.

The authorities discovered that the suspects were transporting 30 boxes of liquor inside their vehicle, the Philippine Star reports, a violation of Metro Manila’s alcohol ban which was imposed during the enhanced community quarantine.

Talosig was brought to The Medical City for treatment because his motorbike crashed while he was chasing the suspects. Meanwhile, Joselito was brought to the Rizal Medical Center for treatment for gunshot wounds.

Jason was arrested and brought to the Quezon City Police District where charges were filed against him and his father.
