The wife of ABS-CBN actor Matt Evans was arrested yesterday afternoon in Makati City after she was accused of committing fraud.

Businesswoman Riza Katrina Evans, 32, was arrested by the police based on a warrant issued by the Makati Metropolitan Trial Court Branch 66-A, ABS-CBN News reported.

Makati City Police Chief Major Gideon Ines said the arrest was in connection with a business transaction that Katrina made, but did not provide any further details, Bombo Radyo reported. Her bail was set at PHP30,000 (US$590).

In September, Matt Evans had told the entertainment website Pep.ph that it was actually his wife who had been victimized by a business partner who allegedly stole PHP6 million (US$117,896) worth of luxury bags and jewelry from her. Matt said they filed a fraud complaint against the suspect in Cebu City in 2016.

In turn, the suspect filed a cyberbullying complaint against Katrina after the latter ranted about the alleged fraudster on Facebook. Katrina is out on bail in connection with the cyberbullying case.

Matt rose to fame in 2006 when he became one of the cast members of “Pinoy Big Brother: Teen Edition 1,” in the Philippine franchise of the global reality show stalwart. Katrina, on the other hand, is reportedly a member of the Fariñas family, a prominent political clan in Ilocos Norte province.
