Bishop’s recommendation: Cancel Halloween parties and help those in need

The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) isn’t really into people putting on costumes for Halloween. They prefer it if people would commemorate All Saints’ Day (Nov 1) and All Souls’ Day (Nov 2) helping those in need.

“Ozamiz Bishop Martin Jumoad told Radyo Veritas that attending Halloween parties will not benefit a person’s faith,” reports Kristine Angeli Sabillo on Inquirer.net.

Jumoad was quoted as saying, “Cancel your Halloween parties and divert your money in helping the poor [and] those who are affected by the Typhoon Lawin and Karen in Batanes and in Northern Luzon.”

Jumaod pointed out that “people should share their resources,” especially because the Catholics are supposed to be marking 2016 as the “Year of Mercy.”
