Communications Secretary Martin Andanar dubbed the gathering of President Rodrigo Duterte’s supporters at Quirino Grandstand as the “real” People Power.
“(Ito) ang patunay ng totoong People Power,” he said in a speech before thousands of Duterte supporters on Saturday.
“Ang People Power po ay hindi blue, red, dilaw, itim. Ang People Power po ay para sa lahat ng Pilipino.”
(This is proof of the real People Power. People Power isn’t for the blue, red, yellow, black. People Power is for all Filipinos.)
Thousands of Duterte supporters gathered at the Quirino Grandstand to show their support for the administration’s war on illegal drugs.
Meanwhile, a separate rally was held at the People Power Monument in commemoration of the 31st anniversary of the 1986 EDSA Revolution.
At 7 p.m., Manila police estimated the crowd to be at about 200,000. No injuries were recorded at the time.
Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II, who also attended the gathering, said it showed that support for the president has not changed since the campaign period.
“Ito ay tanda ng suporta mula nung nagkakampanya palang tayo ay hindi nagbago ang paghanga at pagsuporta ng mga Pilipino dito sa ating pangulo,” Aguirre said
(This is a sign of support ever since we were campaigning that the Filipino people’s admiration and support for the president never changed.)
