American and South Korean fugitives to be deported from PH

They tried to run but they couldn’t hide.

Two foreign fugitives will be deported after they were arrested in the Philippines over the weekend, the country’s Bureau of Immigration announced today.

The Philippine Daily Inquirer identified the fugitives as American Joel Pasay Aquino, 56; and South Korean Kim Jae Hyoung, 60. Aquino was arrested on Saturday in Clark Field in Angeles City, Pampanga while Kim was also caught on the same day in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu.

Aquino is wanted in the U.S. for allegedly possessing child pornography, according to a report from ABS-CBN News. BI chief Jaime Morente said that a court in Nevada has issued a warrant of arrest against Aquino.

Meanwhile, Kim is wanted in Seoul for allegedly swindling US$234 million (PHP12.373 billion) from another Korean, Manila Bulletin reported. After promising his victim that the amount would earn interest, he allegedly told her to wire the money to his bank account. Kim absconded with the money and left Seoul for the Philippines where he has been hiding for the past four years.

Morente said the two men’s deportation orders have already been issued and their passports have been canceled by their respective countries.
