Liza Diño, Aiza Seguerra’s wife, to head of Film Development Council

Should we start calling them a power couple?

Liza Diño is the latest celebrity to be given a goverment position by the Duterte administration — as chairperson of the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), ABS-CBN News reports.

The announcement was made just hours after state-run PTV announced on Twitter that Diño’s partner, former child actor Aiza Seguerra, was named head of the National Youth Commission.

Liza, a Speech Communication graduate of UP Diliman, will replace current chairman Briccio Santos.

By its mandate, the FDCP, which is under the Office of the President, is tasked with ensuring the growth of the local film industry by organizing, among others, film festivals, promoting the Philippines as a shooting location, and by alloting funds to local filmmakers. It received a budget of PHP117 million in 2014 and PHP127 million in 2015.

It’s long been rumored that Aiza will get a goverment post.

Liza’s name did not come up among the list of showbiz supporters who will be appointed by Duterte. But her appointment isn’t exactly surprising, considering her close ties with the President.

Aiza and Liza supported President Rodrigo Duterte in the 2016 elections. Liza is the daughter of Martin Diño, whom Duterte replaced as the standard bearer of PDP-Laban during the presidential elections.

In an interview with ABS-CBN News last June, Aiza said Duterte sought his and Liza’s assistance for the promotion of culture and the arts in the country.

“He’s asking us for help,” Seguerra said. “So magpupulong na kami ng mga artist friends, so that once we meet up with him, meron na kaming nakahandang mga pwedeng gawin.”
