Two suspected muggers were killed in a police shootout in Ermita, Manila early today.

They were identified as Allan Damalong, 38, and Michael Dequiñon, 21, The Philippine Daily Inquirer reported.

According to police, a man and a woman who were on their way home were waiting for a jeepney in P. Burgos Ave. at around 2am when they were allegedly robbed by the suspects who were aboard a motorcycle, ABS-CBN News reported.

A bag and a cellphone were stolen from the victims who immediately went to authorities at a police checkpoint near the Andres Bonifacio Memorial Shrine in Ermita, Radyo Inquirer reported.

Police were able to chase and catch up with the suspects at the McArthur Bridge near the city square Liwasang Bonifacio. This is where the suspects allegedly shot at the cops, prompting the latter to shoot back. The suspects died in the encounter.

Authorities retrieved two .38-caliber revolvers, seven empty shells, and two deformed slugs from the shootout, Inquirer reported.

The alleged muggers’ bodies were brought to the Archangel Funeral Parlor in Sampaloc, Manila.
