Looks like Filipinos have more reasons to smile — at least according to the 2017 World Happiness Report released in time for International Day of Happiness, Mar 20.

The Philippines ranked 72nd in this year’s survey measuring the state of global happiness. It was a huge jump from last year’s ranking at the 82nd spot.

How did other countries fare?

Norway was named the happiest place in the world. Denmark, Iceland, Switzerland and Finland are in the top five.

At the bottom of the list of 155 countries is Central African Republic.

Singapore at the 26th spot is the top Asian country on the list. Thailand is close behind at the 32nd spot.

The World Happiness Report is published with the help of the United Nations, the Sustainable Development Solutions Network, and now supported by a generous three-year grant from the Ernesto Illy Foundation.

Happiness is considered “to be the proper measure of social progress and the goal of public policy.”
