‘Who is this kid?!’ : Sam Smith floored by viral video of Pinoy student belting out his song

Sure, belting out tunes at karaoke might as well be Filipinos’ national pastime, but have you ever been truly wowed after hearing someone do a spotless rendition of a Sam Smith song? As it turns out, the British crooner himself recently did, and he can’t help but gush.

“WHO IS THIS KID?!” The singer wrote on all caps in his social media accounts over the weekend, posting the video of a teenager in a school uniform, belting out his 2017 song Too Good at Goodbyes in a mall with a karaoke set-up on display. The less than two-minute video prompted the crooner to tweet, still in all caps, “YOU ARE OUT OF THIS UNIVERSE WHOEVER YOU ARE”.

TV Patrol has confirmed that the teenager in question is actually Carl Malone Montecido, a finalist in the hit singing competition Tawag ng Tanghalan (or “Call of the Stage”), which is a segment in noontime variety TV show It’s Showtime.

Montecido also happens to be blind.

The Bacolod City singer’s video has since gotten millions of views on Twitter and Instagram, with another fellow singing competition vet, American Idol winner and The Voice judge Kelly Clarkson chiming in, “This video has been going around my team as well! This kid is insane!!”

How insane?
