Welcome 2017 by watching ‘Sa Wakas,’ a musical featuring the songs of Sugarfree

Finally, the critically acclaimed, homegrown musical Sa Wakas is getting its much-awaited second run starting Jan 12 at the Power Mac Spotlight Theater in Circuit Makati.

Co-written by Andrei Nikolai Pamintuan and Mariane Abuan, Sa Wakas is a bittersweet contemporary love story brilliantly tied together by the songs of the now-defunct Pinoy pop-alternative band Sugarfree, best known for hits such as Mariposa, Hari ng Sablay, and Kwarto.

Sa Wakas, which is also the title of the Sugarfree’s first album raises the timeless question: “Why do relationships fail?”

Spoiler alert: The show starts with a crushing breakup and works its way backwards to the romantic beginnings of a typical relationship.

Expect a cryfest. You might even have an unwelcome urge to look back at your own failed relationships and question what may have gone wrong. Ah, but it will be worth it!

Pepe Herrera and Vic Robinson will alternately play the lead role Topper. Caissa Borromeo and Carra Baredo will alternately play Topper’s girlfriend Lexi. Maronne Cruz and Justine Peña will alternately play the third-wheel Gabi.

The play had its first run in 2013, when it showed in PETA theater in Quezon City.

Sa Wakas runs from Jan 12 to Feb 5 at the Power Mac Spotlight Theater in Circuit Makati. Tickets are from PHP700 to PHP1500. For more information, visit the Sa Wakas website and Facebook page.
