See an exhibit examining art photography in the age of Instagram
Date: Dec. 19, Thursday – March 29, Monday
Venue: Ateneo Art Gallery, Soledad Pangilinan Arts Wing, Ateneo de Manila University, Katipunan Avenue, Quezon City
On show from this weekend until March at Quezon City’s Ateneo Art Gallery, “Not Visual Noise” is a diverse 30-artist photographic exhibit showcasing what’s happening in Manila contemporary photography — from photojournalism, to social media-based projects, to installation photography.
Artists At Maculangan, Wawi Navarroza, and Neal Oshima are among the exhibit’s notable names, as is National Artist Benedicto “BenCab” Cabrera and famed brothers Kawayan and Kidlat de Guia. Their works will be on show in four galleries Ateneo. The exhibit is curated by artist and cultural organizer Angel Velasco Shaw.

Watch how climate change is affecting an island in Cebu

“Equation of State” by Art Basel winner Martha Atienza showcases the artist’s trip to Bantayan Island in Cebu, where she documented how climate change is affecting the southern island and its inhabitants.
The show mirrors Atienza’s tense relationship between the material and immaterial, documenting both the island’s decline and resiliency. Churches, boats, and basketball courts are shown in various states of decay, as mangrove plants and fisherman figure into the exhibition.

Party til the sun comes up — literally — at a Makati EDM show

Makati art space and live electronic music club XX XX (yes, four Xs) is bringing in Tokyo-born British-Filipino DJ Objekt, whose music is a consolidation of techno, electronic, industrial, and ambient dance music influences. Translation: you’ll be partying your pants off in this eight-hour music event. Doors open at 10pm, and the floor is open to drinks and dancing until 5 in the morning.

Be serenaded by Lea Salonga in a live Christmas special
Date: Dec. 21, Saturday & Dec. 22, Sunday
Venue: Resorts World Manila, Parañaque City, Manila
Lea Salonga’s “The Gift, A Christmas Special” shows for two nights this weekend at Resorts World Manila. Watch the country’s premier theater actress perform covers of Christmas classics, and recreate performances from her acclaimed musicals with the ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra and musical direction by her brother, Gerald Salonga.
Special guests including The Voice Kids Philippines (for which Lea sat as a judge) finalists Esang De Torres, Gaea Salipat, and Alexa Salcedo will also be performing. Lea kicked off her career in the titular role of Annie in 1980. She gave a critically-acclaimed performance as Kim in the West End and Broadway productions of Miss Saigon before moving on to star in theater favorites Les Miserable, Cats, and, most recently, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. (But kids and kids at heart know Lea best as the singing voice of Disney’s Mulan and Princess Jasmine.)

Get a head start fighting that holiday paunch with a free high-intensity workout at Legazpi Park

This is the last Sunday of December where you can take part of “HIIT at the Park,” a high-intensity interval training workout that if anything, should make a dent on your holiday paunch. Best part? The fitness-instructor led workshop is free and all that sweat-busting takes place in the cool, tree-lined enclave of Makati’s Legazpi Park.
