Filipino musical films are rare nowadays but will they make a comeback this year?

Changing Partners, one of two original Filipino musical films released last year, will get its nationwide screening this Jan. 31.

It was first screened as part of the Cinema One Originals Festival last year.

The other musical Ang Larawan (The Portrait), was part of the Metro Manila Film Festival.

The story revolves around couple Alex and Cris, who have a big age gap between them. The film explores relationship problems between the two characters.

However, the most interesting part of the film is that the genders of Alex and Cris change throughout the film. It starts out as a story about a man and woman then switches to become about two men and two women.

Agot Isidro and Jojit Lorenzo play Alex while Anna Luna and Sandino Martin play Cris.

The film was adapted from a 2016 stage musical and is directed by Dan Villegas.

Changing Partners took home eight awards at the 2017 Cinema One Originals Festival last year including Best Director, Best Actor, and Best Actress.
