Here’s another surprise: the movie will also star Princess Punzalan, a successful television actress in the Philippines. According to GMA News, Punzalan is now based in the United States where she also works as a nurse.
Judging by the synopsis, the movie looks like a tearjerker.
According to entertainment website Deadline, the movie tells of a 17-year-old Filipino-American named Rose who dreams of being a country music star. She ends up running away from home when her mother is arrested by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement and is forced to work towards her dream or face deportation.
Salonga will play Rose’s aunt.
Playbill reported that the movie, directed by Diane Paragas, has been in development for 15 years and will be Noblezada’s first film.
In her tweet a few hours ago, Salonga shared a Variety article about the project, and wrote: “This is actually happening! (To be totally honest, Eva does most, if not all of the heavy lifting. I’m just happy to be a small part of this effort!).”

Salonga is in the midst of preparing for her 40th-anniversary concert in October at the Philippine International Convention Center Plenary Hall. She won the Tony Award for her performance as Kim in Miss Saigon in 1991.
Meanwhile, Noblezada was nominated for a Tony Award for the same role in 2017.
