Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray and Victoria’s Secret model Kelsey Merritt, two women Filipinos loved cheering for last year, were in the same room together at the American Foundation for AIDS Research (amfAR) Gala in New York City held on Wednesday (U.S. time).
Merritt, the first Filipino to walk the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show runway, posted a photo showing both of them clad in glam gowns at the event. She said: “Bumped into this beauty @catrionaelisa at #amfARNewYork.”
She added the hashtag “#CureAIDS.” AmfAR is an organization dedicated to ending the global AIDS epidemic through research. Their annual Gala is usually attended by high-profile celebrities.

Gray also posted a photo of them together on her Instagram story with the caption: “Hi @KelseyMerritt!!”
Merritt made her debut as a Victoria’s Secret runway model in the annual fashion show in November. She was one of the top trending topics on Philippine Twitter when she walked the runway because many Pinoys were happy to see a Filipina modeling the famous lingerie brand.

Meanwhile, Gray is the fourth Filipina to bring home the Miss Universe crown after the pageant in December. She won right after Pia Wurtzbach in 2015, Margie Moran in 1973, and Gloria Diaz in 1969.
The Philippines also topped the list of countries that tweeted the most during the 67th Miss Universe coronation night in Bangkok, Thailand. No surprises there.
