Reid was not there to accept the award in person but gave his thank you speech via a video message.
“It is such an honor to be representing the Philippines, with this, I will keep on making music and bring the Philippines to the world stage,” he said.
This is Reid’s second nomination for an EMA. He was nominated for the same category in 2015 but he lost to Vietnam’s Sơn Tùng M-TP.
This year he beat out Faizal Tahir from Malaysia, Dam Vinh Hung from Vietnam, Isyana Sarasvati from Indonesia, Palitchoke Ayanaputra and Slot Machine from Thailand, and The Sam Willows from Singapore for the award.
According to MTV Asia’s website, his on-screen and real-life partner Nadine Lustre was also nominated in this category in 2015.
