With less than a month left before the movie Crazy Rich Asians premieres on Aug. 22, there’s finally proof of the Philippines’ “Queen of All Media” Kris Aquino’s cameo.

No less than Kevin Kwan, the Singaporean author of the book that the film is based on, confirmed Aquino’s role when he visited Manila last year but that did not stop naysaying netizens from suspecting otherwise. Many wondered why she was not part of the film’s trailer but yesterday, Aquino posted receipts.

“Here’s an exclusive first-look of my scene with @constancewu in the movie @crazyrichasians,” Aquino wrote on her Instagram caption. “Please watch for this PIVOTAL scene when the movie opens in Philippine cinemas on August 22, 2018.”

To no one’s surprise, Aquino is wearing a yellow dress (a color associated with her political family) which she said was created by Dubai-based Filipino designer Michael Cinco.

In another post today, Aquino described the few lines she says in the film as “a reflection of what Cory Aquino symbolized & championed.” She was referring to her late mother Cory, who served as the 11th president of the Philippines — the first woman to hold the position — after toppling dictator Ferdinand Marcos.

Aquino’s post comes just two days before her mother’s ninth year death anniversary.

Crazy Rich Asians is based on a novel of the same name that tells the story of Chinese-American Rachel Chu (Constance Wu) who discovers that her boyfriend Nick Young (Henry Golding) actually comes from a (crazy) wealthy family in Singapore.

Like the book’s central characters, Aquino is pretty much a “Crazy Rich Asian” herself. At one point, she was even the highest paid local celebrity, but her “crazy richness” goes beyond her career.

On her mother’s side,  she is part of the Cojuangco clan that owns the 6,453-hectare sugar plantation Hacienda Luisita in Tarlac. Her father, slain hero Ninoy Aquino, is also from an influential political family in the area.

Now that’s some meta casting.
