Jericho Rosales and friends launch surfing competition

Jericho Rosales may be popular for being an actor and a singer, but he is also a big fan of surfing. In fact, he and some surfer-friends are holding a surfing competition this month. Entitled “Single and Unattached,” it is the first single-fin longboard competition in the Philippines, according to ABS-CBN. It will be held in La Union.

Organized by Coast Thru Life (CTL), a surfing group founded by Jericho and friends Buji Libarnes and Nikki Dela Paz, the contest will be held at the Urbiztondo Beach in San Juan, La Union this Feb. 8 and 9.

“It’s all about surfing and it sort if became an advocacy – we help save the environment. Tinutulungan namin ‘yung mga surfers ng mga kaibigan namin na mag-distribute ng mga filters,” Jericho told ABS-CBN News about his group.

So why “Single and Unattached”? Echo explained, “[It] will be using single-fin longboards – ito ‘yung mga ginagamit noong unang panahon pa, ‘yung mga classic style. And ‘unattached’ kasi wala kaming leash, hindi namin gagamitin ‘yung leg rope sa paa sa surfboard,” he said.

The first traditional long board competition in the country, “Single and Unattached” has the following categories: Men’s Classic Invitational, The Women’s Classic Invitational, The Tiny Toes Invitational (juniors aged 16 and below), the Newly Single Invitational (amateur surfers), and Expression Session.

For entertainment, a concert will also be held on Feb. 9. Echo will be performing there, too, of course.
