Stiff Peaks: Snow-capped cupcakes from M Bakery hit the sweet-tooth scene this week only

M Bakery, Manila’s import of Magnolia Bakery — the little Manhattan cupcake shop that rose to fame thanks to Carrie Bradshaw and the rest of the “Sex and the City” gang — has just dropped a limited-edition sweet, sticky, meringue-topped cupcake available only this week.

The “sno cap cupcake,” as the shop calls it, is a hand-held dessert featuring a devil’s food cake base with a meringue icing, finished off with  a sprinkling of white nonpareils (i.e. tiny confectionery balls made with sugar and starch). The cupcakes are priced at PHP165 (US$3) a piece, and are on sale on the cupcakery until Dec. 22.

M Bakery made its way to the Philippines in August last year, almost two decades after the New York cupcake shop first opened in Manhattan’s chic West Village. Its first and only shop in Bonifacio Global City serves local takes on well-known desserts, like banana pudding and key lime pie, adapted with local ingredients such as calamansi.
