Looks like Tropical Hut fans got it right, after all. In July, speculation was rife that the local fast food chain was planning on opening a new branch in BGC in Taguig City after the once-forgotten restaurant experienced a massive viral moment that saw burgers getting sold out at its branches across the metro.

Nine months later, it seems the brand is finally ready to reap all those nostalgia points among its patrons once more, birthing its newest location in the posh business district and going head-to-head with imports in the vicinity such as Shake Shack.

Stock analyst JP Tanyag, who was also responsible for the original tweet that led to Tropical Huts viral resurgence last year, posted a photo of the soon-to-open branch showing a facade featuring a tarp bearing the brand’s logo.

Based on the photo, the newest Tropical Hut store will be located at the Commercenter building on 31st Street, beside Mercury Drug and across from St. Lukes Medical Center. That said, the brand remains tight-lipped on its newest branch’s opening date.

Tropical Hut has 34 branches at present, mostly located in Metro Manila and its outskirts, which would make its BGC outpost its 35th — and the first new one it has opened in a long time.

A popular food chain in the ‘80s and ‘90s before falling into obscurity, Tropical Hut experienced a new lease on life last year after Tanyag posted a photo of a near-empty Tropical Hut branch he was dining in.

Social media strategist Tammy David also shared photos of queues of GrabFood delivery riders waiting patiently to pick up orders after the brand’s sudden resurgence.

Soon after, eagle-eyed users found the official Facebook page of Barangay Pitogo in Makati City, which posted a job listing for the upcoming Tropical Hut branch.
