Conveniently yours: 7 Eleven’s 7 Fresh line of salads

There are so many reasons to love 7 Eleven. Just some of them: Big Gulp, those awesome hotdog sandwiches, and all those siopao variants. And now there’s another: their 7 Fresh line of salads. Definitely a healthier option for those who are pa-healthy or are on a diet, these salads can be found in that door-less refrigerator usually near the cashier. The cheapest is PHP39.00 while the most expensive one is PHP89.00.

And since we had money to spend and a growling tummy to tame this morning, we decided to try out 7 Eleven’s line of salads. Here’s what we think.

POTATO BACON SALAD – PHP43.00

How they describe it: Potato salad sprinkled with bacon bits and cheddar cheese

How we describe it: Mushy chunks of potato that happen to have some grated cheese that you won’t really get to taste, plus bacon bits we wish were tastier and crispier. It’s tasteless, but filling enough if you’re after that. In short, pangtawid gutom.

MACARONI SALAD – PHP39.00

How they describe it: Macaroni salad with jelly sprinkled with cheddar cheese

How we describe it: Elbow macaroni salad with some grated cheese that you won’t really get to taste, plus four cubes of red and green jelly. Oh, and distracting bitter bits of pickle. It’s kinda like the Side Salad from Wendy’s but without the carrots, cucumber, and generous thousand island dressing. Kinda sad that the best thing about it are the jelly cubes.

GARDEN SALAD – PHP45.00

How they describe it: A healthy combination of apples, grapes, pineapple, romaine lettuce, carrots, and iceberg lettuce with honey mustard dressing

How we describe it: A sad salad with two grapes and the saddest/smallest apple and pineapple slices we’ve ever seen. Saving the day, however, is the awesome honey mustard dressing.

CAESAR SALAD – PHP45.00

How they describe it: A healthy mix of romaine lettuce, croutons, bacon bits, and parmesan cheese in Caesar dressing

How we describe it: A surprisingly enjoyable Caesar salad, thanks to the creamy and tasty Caesar Dressing Lite (we’re assuming it is healthy, but there’s no explanation anywhere why). Sulit for its price.

CONTINENTAL SALAD – PHP89.00

How they describe it: A healthy combination of romaine lettuce, carrots, red cabbage, iceberg lettuce, and shredded chicken with thousand island dressing

How we describe it: Challenging. For starters, the Thousand Island dressing packets (there are two, not sure if someone made a boo-boo and put in an extra pack there) are enclosed in clear plastic – and they’re hard to tear open. The challenge doesn’t stop there. The leaves aren’t cut small enough so it’s hard to toss everything after you pour in the Thousand Island dressing.
