Wildlife rangers capture biggest ever crocodile in the Penampang district

Wildlife rangers on Sunday captured a 3.2m-long crocodile in a village in Penampang, the largest ever captured in the district so far.

State Wildlife Department director Augustine Tuuga told The Star Online that the massive reptile was caught after falling into a trap set up by the rangers near Kampung Ramayah.

According to Augustine, several villagers alerted the rangers about the presence of the crocodile at Sungai Togop, and he had ordered the trap to be set up to snare the reptile.

The department’s assistant director Dr Sen Natha also the the news portal that the crocodile has been living in the river for several months now.

“And they saw that it was getting bigger and dangerous. Their dogs were also eaten by the reptile,” Dr Sen was quoted as saying.

The crocodile, which was given the nickname of ‘Olog-Olog’ by the villagers, would reportedly be kept temporarily at the department’s Wildlife Holding and Rescue Centre before being released into an isolated river far from civilisation.
