Former youth and sports minister Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman is putting pressure on the government regarding the 150,000 laptops it promised students from low-income families.

The 28-year-old politician and leader of the unofficial Muda political party took to TikTok to call the government out over its overdue promise. The laptops were supposed to be distributed to primary and secondary school students in February to help them attend online classes.

The Muar MP posted the TikTok clip yesterday, showing him knocking on the window inside his car and mouthing the phrase “that’s some bullshit” when pointing out the laptop initiative. The caption in the video said: “Knock knock. Who’s there? NOT the 150,000 laptops & RM100 per youth promised by Gov.”

The video has been viewed more than 30,000 times.

Finance Minister Zafrul Aziz announced in January that 150,000 laptops would be distributed in February, which would cost the government RM150million. February came and went, students have physically returned to school, but the laptops were nowhere in sight.

Some viewers who agreed with Syed said that the politician should probably shave his head again to create awareness, as he had done before to raise funds for his constituency.

“The laptops will come after YB [Syed] shaves his hair and grows it back like Shah Rukh Khan,” @JeganSerena wrote

The federal budget also stated that RM100 (US$25) would be handed out to each university student to buy things like textbooks and other study materials. That has yet to be seen.
