MP Hannah Yeoh has accused the Muhyiddin government of taking away funds from her constituency and lowering her pay.

Yeoh revealed this in her online appeal for donations this morning, saying that more than RM3.5 million (about US$864,000) worth of funds that was previously allocated for her constituency in Segambut, Kuala Lumpur, had been redirected to an “unelected” politician. She also said that she no longer earns RM30,000 annually since last month, without specifying what her new salary is.

“I have lost all allocation previously given by the Federal Government for each Member of Parliament after the Sheraton Move,” she wrote, referring to the popular expression for last year’s change of government.

“Previously, I would receive RM300,000 a year for the running of my office – salary for my staff, rental of office, utilities and other accidental expenses. This is no longer the case beginning January 2021,” she added.

The millions of ringgit previously allocated were meant for financial aids as well as projects such as school and park infrastructures, according to her.

“This allocation has been redirected by the PN government to an unelected PN politician in Segambut. We have no details of their spending since Sheraton Move. No one knows,” she said.

Yeoh is a politician from the Democratic Action Party and used to be the Deputy Minister of Women, Family and Community Development under the second Mahathir Mohamad administration, before he was replaced by Muhyiddin Yassin following political realignments across political factions.

In this morning’s appeal, Yeoh also took a jab at other politicians.

“I cannot sing or dance (or shave my head bald) to raise funds but I work hard for my residents and commit to being an effective voice for them,” she said. Syed Saddiq recently shaved his head to raise money for underprivileged students in his Muar constituency.
