Wannabe child stars take note: Mickey Mouse Club is coming to Malaysia and they want YOU!

It’s an uncertain future for child stars. For every Britney, Justin and Christina, there are hundreds of forgotten cutie pies, struggling with real life once the spotlight fades. Finding themselves in international airports with 16 grams of meth in their bum, just trying to avoid rotting in an Indonesian jail cell.

Don’t let that sway you because … Jeng jeng jeng! The Mickey Mouse Club is finally coming to Malaysia, airing on Astro’s Disney Channel.

Yes, almost 30 years after it was last relevant in the US, Disney has found an unsuspecting market to unleash hours of song, dance, and kid-friendly content. The program features kids of various ages, and was where stars like Ryan Gosling first for their big break. Auditions are being held in Kuala Lumpur (May 13 and 14), Johor Baru (May 20) and Penang (May 21).

Speaking to reporters, Disney Southeast Asia vice-president and general manager, Amit Malhotra said, “The Mickey Mouse Club Star Search will discover the next generation of young stars who will inspire kids and families across Malaysia. It will be a refreshed, modern take on The Mickey Mouse Club, focusing on entertaining and relevant local content.”

Local content? Maybe one of these kids will finally make Aiyo! the kind of international catchphrase it deserves to be.

How do you know if you’ve got what it takes? Kid, if you even need to ask that, you shouldn’t be here. NEXT!

Jokes aside, they’re looking for multi-talented personalities, with Amit citing “Justin Timberlake” as an ideal example of someone who can sing, dance and act.

Good luck with that. Just make sure these guys pay their taxes. Inland Revenue isn’t playing games anymore, kids.
