Unsolicited shower selfie sharer Jamal Yunos charged with being a public nuisance

Jamal Yunos, the man best known for unsolicited sharing of shower selfies “protesting” water shortages, also the guy who told the now-Prime Minister to “go back to school,” that guy who brandished a gun earlier this month, the same guy who smashed up crates of perfectly good beer in “protest” of a beer micro-brew festival he wasn’t explicitly invited to, has been slapped by police with the most fitting charge of 2018: Being a public nuisance.

Have you ever read a more apt description?

Yunos is a member of Umno, the party of former PM Najib Razak, and is the division chief for Sungai Besar, an area outside of Kuala Lumpur.

He gained infamy after emerging as the leader of the Red Shirts, a group loosely tied to Umno (it’s comprised of party members), but officially an NGO. They became the party’s de facto rabble rousers over the last few years: Showing up as a counter-force at any protest that called for transparent governance, instigating crowds to riot, and even resorting to violence on some occasions.

Last October, he and a group of followers arrived at the Selangor state secretariat with crates of beer, and smashed the glass bottles in protest of a canceled artisanal beer festival that had been slated to happen. Leaving the shards and frothy mess behind for someone else to clean up, there was wide public outcry at the latest stunt to come from the showboater.

Police charged him today at Ampang Puteri Hospital over the incident. He was at the hospital receiving treatment for back pain. Probably not advisable to carry around crates of beer, then Jamal.

His bail has since been set at RM3,000 (US$750), and a court date has been set for June 8.
